Michael “MJ” Jordan, Brewmaster, Engkanto, accepted all the awards on behalf of the brewery last October 28, 2021, during the live stream awards presentation hosted by Asia Beer Championship (ABC) founder Charles Guerrier and Oliver Woods, founder of Beer Asia.
“I was streaming the awards event and felt huge pride for all of us at Engkanto Brewery after the Lager was announced a winner in our first category. It was a huge relief since there’s always a high level of anticipation,” said MJ. After the announcement, MJ went on the event’s virtual stage for an interview with the hosts.
Ian Paradies, the founder of Engkanto, felt sheer delight both for his team and the local craft industry. “I can’t begin to explain how excited I am for the Engkanto team! Just a few months after winning at the World Beer Awards, they again took home several awards at Asia Beer Cup 2021, along with other Philippine craft breweries,” he said.
“It is great to see the local craft beer industry’s hard work and dedication pay off through their positive showing at ABC 2021. And there is so much more we have in store for you in the coming months,” he added.
Fresh from claiming the Country Winner at the World Beer Awards 2021, Engkanto Lager won the Silver award in ABC’s International Lager category. Clear, crisp, and balanced, our Lager is incredibly sessionable and particularly easy to drink for those new to craft beers.
Winning the second Silver award is Engkanto IPA in the American Style IPA category. Our version of the most craft popular beer style in the world is medium-balanced and has aromas and flavors of citrus, orange blossom, and passionfruit. The easy-to-drink Engkanto Blonde Ale (Golden Ale category) and hoppy Double IPA (Double IPA Category) each claimed Bronze awards, respectively.
Completing the brewery’s five-for-five award tally is Engkanto Pale Ale. It received the nod as one of the Chairman’s Selection in the American Pale Ale category.
For this year’s competition, ABC released 32 different beer and cider style categories based on their popularity in the region. Breweries from 11 Asian countries including Korea, China, Japan, Thailand, and Singapore sent in their best entries and vied for the top spots. The judging of entries took place in Singapore last October 22 to 23, 2021 while the awards presentation was live-streamed on October 28, 2021.
