Filipino Pride! Engkanto Lager receives Country Winner for Philippines in World Beer Awards 2021

“This will only drive us to further improve, continue to educate the market, to bring world-class products to Filipinos and foreigners alike.” - Ian Paradies, Founder of Engkanto

Engkanto Craft Brewery received multiple recognitions from the prestigious World Beer Awards 2021, particularly Country Winner for the Engkanto Lager. Michael “MJ” Jordan, Engkanto Brewmaster, accepted the accolades on behalf of the brewery last August 19, 2021, via email correspondence with Awards Director Anita Ujszaszi.

Among Engkanto’s entries, the Engkanto Lager received the top honor as Country Winner in the Classic Pilsener category. The beer’s crisp and refreshing appeal comes from a unique tropical profile of fruity and citrusy notes. It will move on to represent the Philippines and compete with other country winners from Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom, and more at the ‘World’s Best’ finals scheduled on September 9, 2021.

In addition, the Engkanto Blonde Ale and Double IPA bagged Silver and Bronze medals, respectively. These two local favorites showcased their unique flavor profiles and clinched the necessary scores based on their categories to receive the distinctions.

“I’m extremely pleased that Engkanto Brewery has won 3 awards upon entering our first International Beer Competition,” said MJ. “It’s a testament to our teamwork and unrelenting focus to make the highest quality craft beer and making a local beer for Filipinos that is recognized as world-class.”

He said, “Words can’t express how proud I am of the whole Engkanto team for their achievement in winning these three awards in our first entry into a highly recognized international beer competition like the World Beer Awards.”

“And I know that this will only drive us to further improve our processes thru innovation and Research and Development (R&D) in order to continue educating the market on craft beer and bringing world-class products to Filipinos and foreigners alike. We hope you all enjoy our craft beers as much as we enjoy making them,” he added.
