A crafty reimagination of brewing tradition

As one of the world's most popular beer styles, the traditional Stout beer originated in the pubs of London, England, becoming a favorite among the working class of the 17th century. Fast forward to modern times, American craft brewers around the mid-eighties took the traditional brewing methods from Europe and gave their own interpretations.

Engkanto Brewmaster Michael 'MJ' Jordan and Team Engkanto found the Stout as an exciting beer style to offer to local beer lovers for the holiday season, but it needed the right twist to entice discerning drinkers who aren't familiar yet with the style.

A favorite childhood sweet snack

Jose Mari Chan nailed the timeless mood of the holidays when he sang 'Christmas in Our Hearts,' mentioning boys and girls in the first line. Childhood excitement, after all, peaks during the Christmas season.

Team Engkanto took off from there to gather ideas and found crumbs among classic childhood snacks. We learned that many enjoy something sweet like chocolate and delectable like peanut butter. Bingo. Led by Brewmaster MJ, we agreed to give the classic Stout beer a Choco Nut spin.

The team’s creative approach continues to solidify Engkanto’s identity in reimagining beers that are rooted in authentic Filipino ingredients, taste profiles, and local culture. Hence, it’s been our unshakeable guide in crafting this year’s seasonal offer.

Going nuts for Nutty & Nice

Not your typical beer, Nutty & Nice Choco Nut Stout has an eye-catching deep black color that comes from the toasted dark malt. While many would assume its intimidating look has very high alcohol level, the beer's appearance doesn't exactly equate to its strength. Nutty & Nice has a slightly high alcohol content at 6.3% ABV and low bitterness, making it approachable for its style. Those new to craft will find the balance of flavors encouraging to try, and it can unlock the door to other beer styles.

With its pleasant chocolate aroma and nice nuttiness coming through, this medium bodied beer tastes similar to a creamy chocolate, yet it's not too heavy, and not too overly sweet either. It’s the perfect drink for your Christmas spread, complementing the rich flavors of barbecued, roasted, and smoked foods such as spareribs and spiced lamb. A bit of blue cheese, gouda, or cheddar in your salad also makes enticing starters to pair with the beer.

Tickle your noses, wet your tongues, and unlock your childhood memories in the familiar chocolate aroma and nutty flavor found in this seasonal Nutty & Nice Choco Nut Stout.

We’ve gone nuts about nostalgia, and we’re taking you on a trip down memory lane!
