Gold lightning strikes again for Engkanto Brewery!  

In this year's World Beer Awards (WBA), the big and bold Green Lava Double IPA takes the biggest nod from the international panel of judges, taking the Country Winner and Gold Medal in the IPA category.   

This is a notch higher for the mainstay variant, which climbed to the top of the competition after winning a Silver Medal last year and a Bronze Medal in 2021. Green Lava Double IPA is the country’s entry for the World’s Best, vying for the coveted title against Brewdog from Scotland, Crew Republic from Germany, and Nbeer from China, to name a few. The judging happens late in August.   

Live It Up Lager and High Hive Honey Ale snag a Silver Medal each, a testament to the unyielding attention to detail and quality of these craft beers. In last year’s WBA, all eyes were on High Hive after winning a Gold Medal. A year before that, Live It Up Lager ushered in the gold rush, which was the first to claim a WBA Gold Medal and Country Winner for the brewery. 

A huge surprise for this year’s World Beer Awards is Hop Coolture Pale Ale, a seasonal beer that quickly became a favorite among locals. While it isn’t among the core Engkanto variants, Hop Coolture is brewed with the same level of passion and dedication.  

The competition results were received by Michael ‘MJ’ Jordan, Brewmaster of Engkanto, through an email correspondence with a World Beer Awards representative. 

“It's overwhelming to think that Engkanto Brewery has been winning for three years in a row in the World Beer Awards and not just for one, but almost all our beers,” shared Ricard Basora, Managing Director of Engkanto. “I couldn’t be any prouder of the team and their work to become the best craft brewery of the best craft beers in the Philippines.” 

Following another successful run in the prestigious global competition, he added, “Together with growing the export market, these victories allow us to showcase the local brewing craftsmanship here in the Philippines and across the globe and continue competing head-to-head with the world's best beers.”
