The craft beer community united and rejoiced for Cinco de Mayo Craft Beer Festival over the weekend
Held at Filinvest City, Alabang, the two-day celebration featured four of the finest names in the craft beer scene: Boondocks Brewing, Elias Wicked Ales and Spirits, Papa Bolo, and Engkanto Brewery.
More importantly, local craft enthusiasts, near and far, came out to show their love and support by raising a toast for locally brewed beers. Adding to the festive mood were local DJs and musicians while scrumptious bites at the Eats by the Park section gave a wide selection of pairings with the beers.
“Our first craft beer festival for 2023 was a great success!” quips Michael ‘MJ’ Jordan, renowned Brewmaster of Engkanto.
“It was a pleasure to work with Filinvest and the three brewers to internally organize our first craft beer festival as a small community that's purely focused on local craft brewers. We learned a lot from this huge experience and look forward to growing the festival in the future. There are greater things to look forward to in the coming months,” he adds.
Over and above sharing a great beer experience with the enthusiasts in attendance, the four local brewers continue to make a strong stance against the lack of respect in the term ‘craft beer style’ coined by an industrial beverage conglomerate. It was used in products without regard to the true essence of craft and value for its community.
This event echoes the Cinco de Mayo holiday in Mexico, which commemorates the bravery of outnumbered Mexican fighters in the Battle of Puebla. They’ve defeated the troops of the French Empire in Puebla City, Mexico, and thwarted a full-scale invasion.
